Bálint studied social theory and social policy at ELTE, Bard College (New York), UC Berkeley (California), and received his MSc in Comparative Social Policy from the University of Oxford, where he wrote his award-winning thesis on the politics of Eastern European welfare states. He is currently pursuing an MPhil in political science at the Central European University and a PhD in social policy at ELTE. Beside his research interest in welfare state theory and policy (especially concerning homelessness, housing and minimum income protection), he recently edited a volume on the political philosophy of civil disobedience and nonviolent resistance.
