Lance holds a BA (Hons) in English and Education from the University of Southampton. His own education was a product of the British Public School system whereas his teaching career has spanned a range of educational establishments from a preparatory school in Warwickshire to a leading comprehensive school in Hampshire. Before teaching, Lance trained and worked at the Pallas Gallery in London, a Fine Art publishing house, which collaborated with many prominent artists of the day including Graham Sutherland, Henry Moore and John Piper. He has held posts as Head of Pastoral Care and Heads of English and Drama. He has written a series of Drama text books for use in schools, is the author of a number of gardening books, was appointed a National Moderator in English for an examination board and was instrumental in creating a National Examination in English and Film Studies. In his free time, Lance enjoys Classical Music, Contemporary Art, Film, Venice and the novels of E.M. Forster.
