Derya Sahin Ipek

Derya received her BA in teaching mathematics in primary schools. During and after her undergraduate years, she has gained experience in several countries, including Denmark, Poland, and Finland, through different roles such as student, project coordinator, researcher, and teacher. These experiences intrigue her to develop a deeper understanding of educational decisions, teachers’ roles, and context-embedded practices on different levels. Hence, she earned her MSc in the Department of Educational Science at Middle East Technical University, in Turkey, and continued her PhD in the same department at ELTE University, in Budapest, Hungary. Her main research interest is critical mathematics education and teacher agency in relation to inequalities in education. Before joining Milestone Institute, she worked as an educational researcher in a think-tank in Turkey for 6 years.
