Holds a PhD from Geography/Social Sciences Faculty, Open University, UK, dissertation on the political economy and ethical norms of journalism; MA in Journalism from the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”; and MSC in Environmental Sciences and Policy, Central European University, Budapest.
Experienced trainer and course leader of over 50 workshops and training courses for journalists across Central, Eastern, South-Eastern Europe, the former USSR, Turkey and Central Asia, implementing a hands-on training methodology jointly developed with fellow-trainers from The Guardian, Financial Times, BBC etc.
Former first editor-in-chief of Current Affairs Programmes, presenter of the weekly show Sofia’s Tales, news reporter with portfolios – President Dr. Zhelyu Zhelev, Foreign Ministry, Parliament – on Nova TV (1994 – 1997).
Former Editor-in-Chief of Green Horizon, the quarterly magazine of the intergovernmental Regional Environment Center for Central and Eastern Europe in Szentendre, Hungary (2001 – 2008). Project manager of international projects to strengthen the freedom of journalism and civil society in Central and Eastern Europe, South Eastern Europe, Turkey, NIS..
Author of applied and academic studies on trends in journalism in the public interest and digitalization, with a focus on professional and ethical norms of journalism, industry interference in editorial processes, relations between journalism and civil society, etc. Associate member of the Open Space Research Center in Milton Keynes, UK.
Advisor for civil society to the Minister of Environment and Water in Bulgaria (July 2023 – April 2024; March – June 2014).
Father of 3. Based in Budapest, Hungary; and in Sofia, Bulgaria.
