One of the most important scholarly books, donated by the Oxford University a few years ago to Milestone, disappeared this January. Who stole the book and what it contained? And most importantly what should be done now that such an unprecedented crime has been committed?
In the Architecture of Memories module, students will form investigative squads to make sense of “the scandal of the century” using a variety of methods ranging from practical tools of forensic science to cross-examination, source analysis and decoding.
By the end of the term, participants will have an understanding of the methodological principles of several disciplines, including archaeology, history, modern languages, law, art history and even theology.
Participants will be working in small groups (squads) submitting weekly updates on the progress of their respective investigation and participating in the solution of a set of investigative challenges. The term concludes with a report provided by each squad detailing their findings and offering an interpretation of the “unacceptable crime” that was committed.
