The module will guide students through the field of linguistics using the concept of “bad language” – or cursing – and focus on the taxonomy, the effects of culture and time, as well as the psychological and neurological aspects of cursing. In doing so, students will be introduced to concepts related to both applied and theoretical linguistics through the interactive module sessions. In addition to the set texts, optional readings are available on each topic to those who would like to dive deeper. Even so, students are encouraged to ask for further reading or resources on any topic discussed during the module, if they are interested. The final assignment will allow participants to use what they have learnt in a creative project. All students are welcome who are interested in the field of linguistics.
