Statistics has a reputation for being a somewhat dry subject – students who study statistics are usually interested in a different subject, such as psychology, medicine or the social sciences. These disciplines all offer us theories that explain something about the world – human behaviour, health or social dynamics and that is naturally exciting to us. However, having theories about the world is not enough – we also need evidence! Modern science is all about testing theories against data – and statistics is the discipline that gives us the tools to do this.
