The Civilizations course offers a competitive and cooperative, game-based and entertaining learning experience in the fields of politics, social sciences, economics and the history of ideas. Students will play the role of members of the government of a state they devise in an 8-week long simulation.
\nThe module runs in two parallel groups, which are not connected. The two groups are independent of each other, and there is no crossover between them (for instance if someone cannot come to one of their own group’s sessions, cannot make up for it by coming to the other group’s class).
\nEach course group will feature 3 states, which will compete and\/or cooperate with each other. Thus, in the first session, students form teams of 3-4, running the governments of their separate fictional countries. The teams will remain unchanged until the end of the module.
\nDuring the term, the governors of the state will encounter various political, social and economic challenges, and it will be their task (as members of the government) to give appropriate responses to the given challenges. As representatives of their respective governments, students will have the responsibility to make decisions concerning their country\u2019s political and economic system, as well as address specific challenges the state will encounter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
