The aim of the project is to prepare (express) a recombinant protein in bacteria and purify it. This is called recombinant protein expression, which is a basic procedure used in molecular biology and widely used in the biotechnological industry. Performing the steps in this process will give the students an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the most important laboratory techniques such as pipetting, bacterial cell culture, transformation, agarose and SDS gel electrophoresis and liquid protein chromatography.<br \/>\nStudents will also learn about the theoretical background of the applied methods and the practical uses of them in research and in the biotech industry.
