Biomedical Ethics
The aim of this Module is to provide an introduction into biomedical ethics and develop a critical understanding of its central issues and debates, such as patient autonomy, informed consent, therapeutic privilege, research ethics, reproductive rights, and end-of-life decision-making.
Drawing on cases known from media and popular culture wherever possible, we examine the dilemmas that define the field and explore the range of responses that different ethical traditions offer. The Module is built around reflective discussion, problem-solving, and reasoned debate.
Particular attention is paid to reading and critically evaluating diverse sources, allowing the development of transferable skills that extend beyond the subject itself. The Module is designed to be accessible and should be relevant and interesting for students from across Milestone.
It is especially relevant for those considering further study in Medicine, Law, Philosophy, or the Social and Political Sciences.
