Diagnosis
This module is designed for students with a deep interest in pursuing careers in Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacy, or other fields of Healthcare. Our primary aim is to give students insight into the type of work they can expect to do as medical students or pre-service healthcare workers.
Therefore, the module has a high emphasis on case studies and real-life situations, primarily focusing on the human diagnostic process. It is structured according to diagnostic modalities, zooming in on the human body: from Physical Examination we proceed to Medical Imaging, Histopathology, Microbiology, Laboratory tests and Genetic tests.
The final session covers the basics of Mental State Examination. We would also like to offer alternative pathways for those who realise that Medicine is not the right choice for them by introducing students to related fields, such as Biology, Veterinary Science or Psychology.
Other than hard knowledge, the module will provide many opportunities to practise skills such as teamwork, analytical thinking, problem solving, data literacy, communication, creativity and attention to detail, as well as deductive and quantitative reasoning—all of which are crucial for success in clinical aptitude admission tests.
