From nature conservation to protein engineering or superbacteria, understanding the concept of evolution is of great importance. It is not an exaggeration that evolutionary thought is absolutely necessary for understanding all segments of biology and related disciplines. This module is an easily digestible introduction to the basics of evolution.
In most sessions, we will play short games that help students understand the various concepts we cover, and in all sessions, students will be required to contribute to the discussion. Debates and provocative questions will be most welcome.
Throughout the module, we will cover the basic concepts of evolution, how life on Earth originated, how the complexity of organisms changed, how new species are born, and how humans evolved. We will also extend evolutionary thought to areas of life not strictly related to biology.
