What makes us human? What differentiates animals and other living things from human beings? How can we best characterize human nature? How would an anthropologist approach and respond to this question as opposed to a psychologist?
In this module, we will attempt to define and identify features and themes in ‘human nature’ from an anthropological and psychological perspective. Through covering specific topics of language, emotions, imitation, gender, and normality/abnormality, the module will aim to instil an appreciation of methodologies, approaches, and key questions used in the two fields – and therefore, naturally engendering an interdisciplinary lens to critically examine important themes in natural and social sciences. This module is recommended for anyone who would like a broad introduction to both fields and related subjects in the natural sciences and social sciences.
