Introduction to Programming

Programming is a quickly-growing and highly popular area of the numerical sciences. The amazing thing about coding and implementing different sorts of algorithms is that it opens up endless possibilities: you will see that even the tiniest set of symbols and instructions may give rise to a language that is rich enough to formulate and attack all sorts of problems.

The current module offers introductory steps for students with no prior experience but a keen interest in computer programming. This module introduces a powerful process for solving any programming problem. You will learn how to approach a programming problem methodically, so you can formulate an algorithm that is specific and correct. You will work through examples with sequences of numbers and graphical patterns to develop the skill of algorithm development. Besides learning about the theoretical part of the process, students will have the chance to see real-life examples of coding and programming solutions, and to practise by themselves. Plus, a related project will be assigned to the students to solve during the semester.
