Have you ever wondered how films or theatre plays actually are made? Why there are so many people in the closing credit roll, and not just in the CGI department?
Have you ever wondered if you need to be a genius (whatever this means) in order to have a creative profession and not starve? And if not, does this mean that it’s all about networking and having the right connections?
Still, how would that explain so many people in the closing credit roll? What are they all doing there?
The module aims to introduce the students to various parts of the creative process and to various creative jobs and tasks by serving as a practical workshop. For eight weeks, we will be planning, creating, filming, and documenting a small theatre performance with puppets. Every step of the production will be accomplished by the students themselves. In the process, the students will become familiar with the basic functions of the different elements of a production (either theatrical or cinematographic) and, in some cases, to the different approaches as to how these elements should work.
At the end, we will have a recording of the play and critical pieces to accompany it, ready to be presented to the broader community, should the students decide so. But it can also be approached as a simple opportunity for play, which does not have an obligation to produce anything serious and “presentable” as a result. (But may still turn out to be very presentable accidentally. Who knows.)
