“Uncertainty is the only certainty there is..”, as mathematician John Allen Paulos points out, is a fundamental component of many systems, ranging from subatomic particles to human decision-making. Probability theory provides a formal framework for comprehending this uncertainty and making educated judgments based on the facts at hand. This module’s goal is to give students a good foundation in probability theory and data analytics by addressing fundamental concepts such as risk, uncertainty, ambiguity, belief, evidence, likelihood, correlation, regression, and data visualization. Students will be able to address a variety of probability and data analytics challenges, as well as think critically about belief systems and evidence by the end of the module. This module is recommended for students interested in mathematics, computer science, economics, neuroscience, cognitive science, and data analysis in general.
